Counseling Services
Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more managable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone. ~Fred Rogers

The therapeutic relationship is foundational to successful therapy. We are born into relationships and throughout life we continue to be embedded in relationships and cultures that shape who we become, this means we develop ourselves in relation to others. Often past or current patterns of relating cause us to turn away from the people that are important to us, creating conflict, unfilled experiences, and negative feelings. Because behavior is learned, change is possible. By developing kindness towards the various parts of ourself we can develop understanding of others and affect how we relate, communicate, and interact.
Either working with individual, couples or families, I come from the perspective that every person is valuable, dynamic, and seeks growth to integrate the various parts of ourselves and experience wholeness. I also believe that people do well if they can and distress can indicate discord in personal development and needs, family and relationship, and/ or the culture that we are embedded in. As we work together I encourage your participation to connect to your strength and inherent wisdom to find a way forward. Solutions are embedded in the problem itself, and with attention and support you can develop the awareness to create the change you desire.
My goal is to help you develop greater clarity, confidence, and joy in life and to bring this grounded nature to experience fulfilling relationships that offer connection, belonging, ease, and flexibility. My therapeutic approach is interpersonal and relationally based and is informed by neurobiology of trauma and attachment, family systems theory, Processwork psychology, traditional healing/five element theory, and communication theory. These models allow me to view you within the context of your life, and help me to understand your personal experiences. I also seek to understand the way power and privilege holds everyone back from realizing their potential. I value all viewpoints and levels of experience and seek to facilitate interaction and communication of difference. I use elements of mindfulness, dream states, bodywork, and movement to increase self awareness and work with personal beliefs, biases, emotions, behavior, and difficult states. When appropriate, I incorporate solution focused techniques drawn from cognitive models. This integrative approach informs our work together and helps you attain your goals.
